“And I will make you swear by the Lordthe God of heaven and the God of the earth that you shall not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:” Genesis 24:3
At this time Abraham was old and expecting to die soon. He feared that upon his death, Isaac might be influenced to marry a wife from the surrounding idolatrous nations. God’s people were commanded by Him not to intermarry with idolaters lest they might be led into the pagan worship of nature and its wickedness. Therefore, Abraham committed this vitally important matter to find a wife for his son among his kindred to his most faithful, experienced servant.
Jesus as the true God of this earth is very interested in and involved with who we marry. Realizing this truth, Abraham required his servant to make a solemn oath before the God of heaven and the God of this earth that he would not take a wife for Isaac among the Canaanites. Instead he would travel to the land of Abraham’s kindred, who believed in the true God, and there, under the guidance of Christ, select a wife for Isaac.
Abraham, also, charged his servant to not take Isaac to the country from which Abraham left, for they were heavily affected with idolatry. If his servant could not find a wife for Isaac that would leave her kindred and come where Isaac lived, then the servant should be clear of the oath which he agreed to perform for Abraham.
How is it with you? Do you trust Christ to help you make wise decisions? Even the decision of whom you should marry? Making a wrong choice can lead to a life where the dark shadows of disunity never leave your home. Trust Christ! Listen to His voice! Read His manual for happiness in marriage! If you are married, reveal the love of your Savior to your spouse and pray for each other.
Praise God that Jesus is the true God of this planet and He is coming again to claim it!
