“And said, ‘If you will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord your God, and will do that which is right in His sight, and will give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon you, which I have brought upon the Egyptians for I am the Lord that heals you.”
Exodus 15:26, KJVER
As the leader of the Hebrews in their wilderness journey, Christ preserved them from its perils. He established them as His own chosen nation. To Israel was committed the commandments of life given by God. Hedged in by the precepts of His holy Law, their obedience to its principles protected them from destroying themselves by sinful practices.
Desiring to make His people living witnesses of His glory which is His character, they were given every spiritual advantage. Christ withheld nothing favorable from them to transform their character as representatives of Himself.
By obedience to His principles of healthy living, they would be protected from the horrible diseases afflicting the surrounding nations. Our loving heavenly Father furnished them with everything necessary to become the greatest nation on earth.
Christ, through Moses, presented God’s purpose for them, and had made plain the terms of their prosperity. “You are an holy people to the Lord your God,” “…the Lord your God has chosen you to be a special people to Himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. . . . Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments…You shall therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command you this day, to do them…And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt which you know, upon you.” Deuteronomy 7:6, 9, 11, 15.
Today there are conditions to be observed by all who would preserve their health. As workers together with our Creator for the restoration of health of soul and body, we must become knowledgeable of the laws of health, obeying them in this sin-polluted world in order to maintain our minds in the best possible condition. As the right hand of the gospel message, we must instruct others how to preserve and recover from wrong habits especially in our eating habits.
“Sickness, suffering, and death are the work of an antagonistic power. Satan is the destroyer; God is the restorer. The words spoken to Israel are true today of those who recover health of body or health of soul. ‘I am the Lord that heals you.’ Exodus 15:26.”

Do you obey God’s principles of health, doing what is right in His sight? Restoration is the very essence of the gospel, and our Savior instructs us to bid the sick, the afflicted, the depraved and the hopeless to take hold upon His strength as we bear witness in our own life of His healing power. Praise Jesus our Great Physician, the healer of mind, body and soul!
