Doctor Who: The Gnostic View of the Great Controversy
Errone Kemp
Introduction
Doctor Who, a show originally created in 1963 takes its viewers on a journey of a time-traveling extraterrestrial human-looking being that is said to be from a planet called Gallifrey. This extraterrestrial human-like being called The Doctor, who is a ‘Time Lord’; travels throughout time and space in his spaceship/time machine called a TARDIS (which stands for: Time And Relative Dimension In Space) which looks like a blue English, police box. The Doctor frequently travels throughout time and space with a companion (mostly a woman) or a few companions (males and females) saving the galaxy and other planets (mostly Earth), from various disasters either caused by humans or other beings from other planets and galaxies. The original show ran from 1963 to 1989. The show relaunched in 2005 and is still running to this date, with a new season underway, season 11 – with filming having started in November of 2017 and the first episode of series 11 to air this year in 2018. The False God
The Name of The Doctor: A Counterfeit of God’s Name
Starting this assessment, before getting into the content of the show, there are a few issues surrounding the mystery of The Doctor’s name. According to Doctor Who, ‘The Doctor’ is not the characters real name – but merely a title that he has chosen for himself. Time Lords can use their birth names or choose titles for themselves that they would prefer to go by. In Doctor Who, no one knows The Doctors real name, save for his wife, a character named River Song who he utters his name to in an episode, and possibly one of The Doctors companions Clara, who said she saw his name written down in his library in a book in the TARDIS . It is also presumed that a few select people on his planet Gallifrey know his name as well. One of the big mysteries in Doctor Who is The Doctors name as it apparently has been mentioned in the show that it can bring great destruction and annihilation to the universe if his name is uttered out loud. There is an episode dedicated to this where aliens from various planets in the show are trying to figure out the question to ask to obtain his name, and then to finally know his name. In Doctor Who it is said that: The Doctors name is the answer that must never be spoken, to the question that has been hidden in plain sight since the dawn of time. It is found in this episode that the question hidden in plain sight is in fact: ‘Doctor who?’ There have been episodes in the original series in which The Doctor has went by other names such as a mathematical name that cannot be pronounced and it was once said in the original episodes that that was his name. In one of the newer episodes some seasons ago, a character asked what his name was, and The Doctor candidly and nonchalantly replied: “Basil”. The writers have played around with this often, however it encroaches upon something very similar that we know about God. Early scribes understood and reverenced God so much that they used a special pen and ink when writing His name, when writing Scripture (biblemuseum.net). God’s name was so revered that it was often not even spoken by early scribes. This went to show how much respect, love and admonition was given to God because He is so great, mighty, powerful, and is the only One that deserves this level of reverence. Early believers were not so meticulous over God’s name because they were afraid of Him or afraid because if His name was uttered than the entire universe would collapse, and all life and creation would be killed. The early believers simple understood God’s greatness. Satan has tried to counterfeit God’s very divine nature and reverence that only belongs to Him through Doctor Who, twisting and confusing the minds of the viewers to look upon The Doctor as a god-like figure that deserves such respect and reverence.
Knowing the End from the Beginning
As it is written: “Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,” (Isaiah 46:9-10 NKJV), it appears that Satan is influencing Doctor Who to try to create this counterfeit within the show. As The Doctor travels throughout time and space with his companions, he visits the past, present and the future of earth, other planets, and galaxies. Throughout the show the viewers often hear The Doctor telling his companions of things that will happen or have happened. For example, in the episode called ‘Voyage of the Dammed’ the 10th Doctor hinted to have been present at Jesus’ birth, and to have remembered what happened at the first Easter, quoting something pertaining to the plot of one of the Harry Potter books before that particular book was written (in real life), knowing one of the characters in the show would go on to become the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (in the show), and the list goes on and on throughout the Doctor Who series. There were even jokes going around that the show, Doctor Who has predicted the future in real life and a few things in history such as Smartwatches, from one of the original episodes called ‘The Ice Warriors’ in 1967, and the media sensationalized Brexit. In the episode called ‘The Beast Below’, it is the 29th century and all United Kingdom citizens, save for Scottish citizens have left earth and have made their civilization on the back on a giant alien, thought to be a spaceship at first, that floats through space – as they are traveling the universe seeking a new home. The camera pans out, so the viewers can see this colossal space city (also a counterfeit to New Jerusalem), and the Union Jack flag can be seen painted on the alien:
At face value, after Brexit happened six years after this episode aired, it seems as if maybe the show did predict this. Also, Scotland did join Brexit, but they voted to remain in the European Union. I am pressing this example so much because it is episodes like this (that have caused internet frenzies, memes and chatter from people thinking Doctor Who predicted Brexit), that hyper-intensify the merging of fiction and reality in people’s minds – to which their perception of reality becomes distorted; which I will touch on at the end of this assessment. It is safe to say that Doctor Who does not predict or foretell anything. Prediction of the future and knowing of the past is something that is only left for God, which He gives to us freely at His choosing. If anything, the little instances where things do seem to have been predicted in Doctor Who, were given by inspiration of devils, and not God; and we know this because the details were never 100% accurate. In other words, there was always what I like to call, Satan’s favorite game – two truths and a lie. Just like the situation with the witch at Endor when King Saul inquired of her to speak to Samuel; Samuel, who was really a demonic spirit told King Saul some truths of what was going to happen, such as his kingdom being given to David, and being delivered up to the Philistines. However, there was a lie such as Saul’s sons and him dying the next day. It seems like a small detail, but it’s important, because Saul and his sons died a few days later. If it were truly Samuel giving this prediction it would have been precise down to the very details, as we see time and time again that God and His prophets whom He gives the prophecies are not off by any details – not even in details that seem insignificant to us.
Another example of The Doctor’s counterfeit knowing of the end from the beginning is seen in the episode called ‘The Fires of Pompeii’. The Doctor and his companion Donna, attempt to travel to ancient Rome, but they end up off course and in the City of Pompeii, the day before the volcanic eruption. When the pair try to scurry back to the TARDIS, they find it is missing, and find out it has been sold to a market. The episode ends up being one of the catalyst of the show, as it is considered one of the fixed points in time that no one is to meddle in or change, but The Doctor ends up breaking his own rule when he saves Caecilius’ and his family (who was a real banker in Pompeii who attempted to save himself and his family from the eruption, but died in the process), from the eruption and send them off in the TARDIS to some other place and time in space. In this episode, it is also told that the eruption of the volcano came about due to a prophecy foretold by a sisterhood of dark origins’, and the people of Pompeii started to turn to stone before the volcano erupted at the hand of an alien made of stone named Pyrovile. There are many dark episodes of Doctor Who, but this one was quite demonic – and even used words such as ‘false prophet’ in reference to Donna when she was trying to tell Caecilius’s daughter Evelina about the eruption that was going to happen the next day – in the real historical way that it happened. The sisterhood was connected to Evelina who also prophesied and listened to the conversation through her and, deemed Donna a false prophet, because they tried to say it was not so that the volcanic eruption was going to happen. According to Scripture, God deemed false prophets those who prophesied peace when God has not said that. After Donna told Evelina about the real eruption, the sisterhood deemed Donna a false prophet and sought after her to kill 6
her. This storyline of what happened in Pompeii completely goes against everything that’s Godly, and everything that is true – therefore it goes against God. It also goes against God’s all-knowing power – as ‘The Fires of Pompeii’ suggest that God’s understanding is lacking and the way that He allowed things to happen was not correct or sufficient, but that The Doctor’s version was. However, we know that Jesus says: “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last” (Revelation 22:13 NKJV), not The Doctor – to change history, or any other character in the show to flip history upside down either.
I did not watch this episode, as this was during the seasons when I stopped watching Doctor Who, but before regenerating into the current 13th doctor, the 12th Doctor’s last words for his future self were reminding himself to not tell anyone his name, but he mentioned that children known it. The Doctor said: “children can hear it, sometimes. If their hearts are in the right place and the stars are too. Children can hear your name. But nobody else, nobody else ever.” (The Doctor, Wikia, n.d) The episode was called ‘Twice Upon a Time’. Jesus once said: “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18: 3-4 NKJV). We must become as little children or be childlike as a child simply follows their parents wherever they go to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, and just as a child knows their parent’s names, and knows their parents on a deep level, we must be that way with Christ. The line from The Doctor appears to counterfeit this truth from Christ, plainly.
The False Great Physician
Aside from Doctor Who portraying The Doctor as a false god according to his name being reverenced in a sense, Doctor Who also attempts to portray The Doctor as God in the sense 7
of him being a false ‘great physician’. In an episode, The Doctor mentions that he chose his name ‘The Doctor’ as his title because it was a promise he made – to be a doctor of sorts. In essence, he wanted to be a healer and mender, as opposed to bringing destruction to the world. Or to make people better, as his arch-enemy The Master put it. The Doctor wanted to show people a different way to live; as opposed to killing each other based on differences, he wanted to be the bridge to mend the gap to bring love and remind people that they are not so different regardless of what planet they were from. According to the dictionary, an informal definition of the word ‘doctor’ is: “a person who gives advice or makes improvements.” Another informal definition of the word ‘doctor’ is: to “treat (someone) medically.” Some synonyms for the word ‘doctor’ include: “treat, medicate, cure, heal; tend, attend to, minister to, care for, and nurse”. In many episodes and situations, the viewers see The Doctor giving advice, making improvements and treating people medically in almost every episode. In fact, the whole basis of what The Doctor does makes up Doctor Who. For example, The Doctor often gave advice when his companions were in relationships, and when traveling to the past, he even gave medical advice and solved medical mysteries. An example of this is seen in the episode ‘The Empty Child’ where a dead child with a gas mask infused to his face walks the streets asking, “Are you my mummy?”, eventually this sickness spreads to other lifeless bodies. The Doctor figures out that human DNA is being re-written. However, many of the things that The Doctor solved were highly against Scripture. Past issues were never really things that happened, or they were twisted in such a way that incorporated alien activity in with it.
In the episode called: The Girl Who Died, The Doctor travels back in time to a Viking village with his companion Clara Oswin Oswald, and meets a Viking girl named Ashildr who eventually ends up being killed by a special helmet that she was using to fight off the Mire 8
warriors (an alien species) who were under the control of Odin. The Doctor admired the girls spirit, tenacity and love towards others, and was deeply troubled by her death because he didn’t feel that she deserved to die. The Doctor took her body inside of the TARDIS and implanted a Mire repair kit inside of her, so she could live for eternity. The Mire had repair chips which were immortality chips that enabled them to be linked biologically with their patients, and repaired them continually (Wikia, n.d). The Doctor took one and kept it; but after realizing Ashildr died, he placed it on her and she came back to life – and in return she lived eternally. The Doctor thought Ashildr would be happy to live forever, but in future episodes the viewers see that all it bought was destruction in Ashildr’s life, as she increased in knowledge, became bored with life, learned to travel through time and space, seen all her friends die and eventually turned into a monster, killer and tormenter of her fellow human beings. Ashildr also changed her name as she said she had lost her identity, and began to call herself simply ‘Me’, Lady Me, Lady Sherade, Ash El Dir, and was sometimes referred to as the Knightmare in certain episodes.
In the scene of The Doctor giving Ashildr the Mire repair chip, the viewers see a false representation of him as ‘bringing the dead back to life’. It gives the viewers a sense that The Doctor has the power and keys to life and death. However, this is a lie and falsehood from Satan, as only God has this power; but is it Satan’s plan to twist God’s character? Surely it is. In Revelation 1:18. Jesus says: “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” Jesus can say this because He won the victory and power over death. It is only Jesus that has the power to raise people from the dead – and He has promised to do so once and for all at the last day; raising the dead in Christ in the first resurrection (Revelation 20:4-6) and the wicked in the second resurrection (Revelation 20:13-14). If someone wanted to look at this on the flip side and say that this could have been 9
representative of when Jesus rose people from the dead on his earthly ministry, it is still a counterfeit. After Jesus awakened people from their sleep such as Lazarus, the little girl, and the holy people who were raised after Jesus’ resurrection, we do not find that the Bible says they rose sorrowful – as that would be an important detail to add in. Most likely, they were very joyful, rejoiced and praised God! Even the holy people raised went and showed themselves to many in the holy city! However, when The Doctor raises Ashildr from the dead, all it does is bring despair, she becomes bored with life and ultimately becomes a super villain! This is a total counterfeit of the truth!
The False Jesus Christ: No Savior in The Doctor
Aside from the whimsical comments, and time travelling adventures, a lot of what draws people to Doctor Who is The Doctor’s seemingly close characteristics to Jesus. In fact, when I first started watching the show, I instantly realized them, and it was what drew me to the show. Doctor Who is the type of show that hides things in plain sight and does not hold back any parallels. It’s almost as if the writers want you to find the parallels. However, when it comes to things that are hidden in plain sight, people become less aware of the messages that are weaved beneath the surface, and because of all the rapid moving stimulus in Doctor Who, many, many things go missed – including the truth. It is interesting because others have seen the parallels between The Doctor and Jesus and there are even websites about it.
In the episode called ‘The Zygon Invasion’, which was already mentioned, a Zygon winks at The Doctor, but it was actually his companion Clara using the Zygon trying to signal to him. Thinking the Zygon was flirting with him, The Doctor then replies, “I’m old enough to be your messiah.” What was meant to be a funny scene, seemed more like a play on how The Doctor is being compared to Jesus Christ. This is just one small example. 10
Upon seeking out His disciples, Jesus uttered a few simple words that consisted of “Follow Me.” He did not have to coax anyone to follow Him or do some great thing to get His followers to know in their hearts that there was something different about this carpenter. “Could He really be the Son of God? Is this the man? It must be!” I imagine them saying. Well, likewise The Doctor got his companions to follow him around the universe – going on extravagant adventures. However, The Doctor followed the same tactic every time to get someone to stay with him on his excursions. He would take someone on one trip around the universe through all of time and space, and after a trip like that it was so hard for anyone to say no. Of course, he would try to tell them how dangerous it was if they were to stay, and would try to beckon them not to, but how could they say no after having had seen the past, the present, the future and other worlds? In the real world, this is considered coercion and manipulation. However, some of The Doctor’s closest companions and friends learned that The Doctor always wanted and needed a companion because he was afraid of being alone. Being alone is one thing that feared The Doctor the most, so he would do anything to avoid that – which includes manipulating others to his benefit, and sure enough any and everyone was willing to follow him wherever he went; but the consequences were great and detrimental in many circumstances. Does this sound like a good representation of our Lord and Savior at all? He does everything for our good and benefit, not to selfishly benefit Himself. The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:7: “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” In 2 Timothy 1:7 we’re told: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” And in John 10:10 Jesus says: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Jesus cares for us, and longs for all to follow Him. He does not need to resort to manipulation because that’s what Satan does. Satan is the thief that comes to steal, kill 11
and destroy and he uses manipulation and coercion to do so. The Lord has also not given us the spirit of fear, so if he has not given us that spirit, then that means that He, Himself does not have that spirit either. Therefore, it seems as if The Doctor in Doctor Who is presented as Jesus or masked as Jesus, but when we look closer, he has all the characteristics of Satan. Could it be that Satan is using this show to use The Doctor’s image as a front-man for himself – masking himself as Jesus to draw the viewers to the show? I would believe so. The Doctor is but one of two front-men that Satan has for himself in this show – the other two will be reviewed later in this assessment.
Choosing the Lowly
Even though we have identified that The Doctor is more characteristic of Satan than Jesus, it is still important to point out the similarities between The Doctor and Jesus to get a glimpse of what is being done to the minds of the individuals watching the show. As mentioned before, The Doctor is a Time Lord. In Doctor Who, Time Lords are considered as gods of the universe. Time Lords were credited to creating time travel, being sensitive to timelines and “being able to see all that is, all that was, all that ever could be.”(Wikia, n.d) Unfortunately, where the creators of Doctor Who were wrong is that only God has this kind of power: “Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:” (Isaiah 46:10 NKJV) Nevertheless, Doctor Who still presents Time Lords as high and mighty, and above humans in wisdom and intellect – even having two hearts instead of one. However, that doesn’t stop The Doctor from having compassion on humans and preferring to spend his time with them, as opposed to any other life forms. The Doctor chooses lowly humans as his companions, many of whom in the real world you would have just passed by on the street not giving a second thought 12
to. All The Doctors companions were outcast in one way or another, some not having many friends or who were not admirable people by any means. Other beings from other planets mock The Doctors compassion for humans, and his want and need to always save their planet. The eleventh Doctor often remarked “I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t important.”
It has been said in the original series during a season with the eight Doctor and hinted again in the current series that The Doctor is not a full Time Lord, but half human and half Time Lord – hence his soft side for humans. This is just another counterfeit of The Doctor ‘being like’ Jesus, as we know that Jesus was fully God and fully man. However, moving back to companionship, we know that Jesus’ 12 disciples were lowly men. His disciples were not highly esteemed or highly educated men, but rather meek, ordinary people with ordinary people’s problems that needed to be sorted out. There is another twist here with The Doctors companions, as his companions were mostly all women. The current series starts with the ninth Doctor down to the 13th. The Doctor has had many companions, but I found it interesting that he has had 12 main companions since the start of the new series (Rose Tyler, Captain Jack Harkness, Mickey Smith, Donna Noble, Martha Jones, Sarah Jane Smith (she was a companion from the 3rd and 4th Doctors who reappears in the current series), Amy Pond, River Song, Clara Oswald, Rory Williams, Nardole, and Bill Potts) down to the 12th Doctor, which has been the peak of the Doctor Who series. Granted, this number is subject to change as the series continues soon with the 13th Doctor, as Wikipedia lists three people as new companions. However, the 13th Doctor is sparking a new series if you will of Doctor Who as the previous writer of the show has stepped down, and the show will be continuing with one of the other main writers – and the show has now taken a turn to have its first female Doctor. Is Doctor Who starting a new set of 12 false 13
disciples? It’s a stretch, but from what I have seen when I used to watch Doctor Who, it is no secret that this show has and will be taking a new turn, with new executives.
Whereas Jesus had men as his closest disciples, The Doctor mostly had women for the majority of the time (staple companions such as Rose, Amy, Martha, Clara and Bill). Whereas all of these women were outcasts and ordinary people in London, they were all very bright – in some cases even almost as intelligent as The Doctor, and some eventually went on to be quite successful such as Martha who became a leader of a top military future organization to combat threats to earth called UNIT. The Doctors male companions on the other hand were not so bright. Mickey was afraid of everything and was very much not a ‘manly’ character at all. A male companion that was bright and more masculine, for example Captain Jack Harkness, was gay. When it came to Mickey, he relied on his girlfriend Rose for everything. Finding out that Rose was falling for The Doctor and vice versa, he left and decided to not follow The Doctor anymore, and left rose as well. It was only when he left that he later found his own strength and became a totally different person (even meeting Martha some years later and marrying her). What does this go to show? Well, seeing that we have identified that Doctor Who portrays a false representation of Christ, it shows people that they do not need to turn to Jesus to become better people or to become Christ-like ultimately. Whereas what The Doctor can offer is esteemed in one sense, in another it is torn down. It is torn down because Satan does not want people to know that our all is found in Jesus. Characters such as Mickey, finding their own strength without The Doctor is showing people a sense that they do not need Christ, but rather that they can set their own rules, and become changed on their own. The Bible says: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” This Scripture is what Satan doesn’t want people to know or understand. 14
Other Counterfeit Parallel’s
Famous Quotes. Other counterfeits are not as grandiose and are seen on smaller scales. Quotes from Jesus are some of the most quotable and noticeable around the world such as the beginning of the Lord’s prayer, parts of the beatitudes, “love one another even as I have loved you” “O ye of little faith”, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, Isaiah 41:10, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”; let’s not forget John 3:16, one of the most quoted scripture verses in the Bible – and of course the list goes on and on. However, it is oddly the same with The Doctor. The Doctor has numerous witty lines that have been quoted by countless fans around the world as well, and people have actually adopted these lines into their everyday conversations. I used to be one of these people when I would converse with some friends who also watched Doctor Who. Lines such as “Wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff”, “Fantastic!”, “Allons-y!”, “I don’t want to go.”, “You want weapons? We’re in a library! Books! The best weapons in the world!”, “Some people live more in 20 years than others do in 80. It’s not the time that matters, it’s the person.”, “In 900 years of time and space, I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t important”, and of course the list goes on.
Counterfeit Parables. Jesus told many parables throughout His ministry. The parables were intended to present an ultimate truth, to shed God’s light, and in many cases to turn people from their wicked ways. The Doctor told many stories in Doctor Who, and he saved a planet by storytelling in one episode. However, The Doctor’s stories didn’t do anything to turn people from wickedness or to present truth. If anything, they were presenting lies, because they were fables and myths!
Hated Ethnic Groups. Before Jesus came in the flesh, the Jews were hated among many nations and had many rivals. It was the same way during Jesus’ time, and afterwards as well – as 15
we are still seeing the aftermath of this tension in the Middle East today. Likewise, in Doctor Who, Time Lords were of a particular race or species who were hated among most other planets after the Time War broke out, which started with a species of aliens called the Daleks wanting to wipe the Time Lords out of existence. As the Jews have been the black sheep of ethnic groups, Time Lords were as well, in the fictional world of Doctor Who. However, the Jews were hated for a just cause. For the Jews were hated because of God, and Jesus. Time Lords wanted control of the universe, and much of it was given to them due to their vast intellect and creation of control of time, according to Doctor Who. It was more so for their power-hungry attitude that sparked the Time War, rendering other planets in the universe to be against them later.
Sacrificial Death. In ‘The End of Time’ part two, with the 10th Doctor, towards the end of the episode The Doctor is at a point where it is the end of the road and he has to make a decision to save Wilfred Mott, (an elderly man and Donna Noble’s father) the companion he was traveling with for that episode or to die and regenerate. Towards the end of The Doctor’s life in ‘The End of Time’, and episodes leading up to it, he goes through a phase of running from his impending doom of death because he does not want his life as the 10th Doctor to end. Some viewers would say he becomes rather selfish – taking only his interest in mind giving little regard to others, while others would say this dynamic was quite comical. When it boils down to the sacrifice, The Doctor first rants about how it isn’t fair. Wilfred got himself stuck in the radiation control room, and the only way to free him was for someone to go into the other control room – which unlocks the adjacent control room. For both to be free, the deadly radiation would have to be turned on in the room that was closed. Look at some of the quotes from a transcript of the episode, during this part:
Wilfred:” Look, just leave me then.” 16
The Doctor: “Okay, right then, I will. Because you had to go in there, didn’t you? You had to go and get stuck, oh yes. Because that’s who you are, Wilfred. You were always this. Waiting for me all this time.”
Wilfred: “No really, just leave me. I’m an old man, Doctor. I’ve had my time.”
The Doctor: “Well, exactly. Look at you. Not remotely important. But me? I could do so much more. So much more! But this is what I get. My reward. And it’s not fair! Oh. Oh. I’ve lived too long.”
After this encounter, it seemed that The Doctor had a change of heart and ‘scarified’ himself for Wilfred’s life. The level of radiation that came through the control room would have killed Wilfred in an instant, but The Doctor, being a Time Lord could withstand it considering he would really die at first, but just regenerate afterward into another person – thus living again. However, it also seems that The Doctors true colors came out during this scene. It wasn’t until his 11th regeneration when he said that he never met anyone that wasn’t important, but after The Doctor regenerates, he has a new body and face, but he keeps his memories. It appears that The Doctor never really meant that considering Wilfred wasn’t ‘really’ important, but more importantly than that, this was not a true sacrifice. It was more so ‘in the way’ for The Doctor to give his life for Wilfred. It was a burden to The Doctor, and even after it all, The Doctors last words (his most famous at that) were “I don’t want to go.” The Doctor parted these words right before he regenerated into the 11th Doctor, still signifying his ‘sacrifice’ was in vain.
The Doctor gave his life for one man out of a burden, but Jesus gave his life for all, and many out of love, that would believe in Him. Scriptures such as: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the 17
world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:16-17 NKJV) and “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45 NKJV) confirm this for us. When the Israelites kept backsliding and wanted to be left alone in their sin and idolatry, God did not respond like The Doctor did to Wilfred, rather God said: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” (Jeremiah 31:31-33 NKJV) and “Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God.” (Ezekiel 11:19 NKJV) In junction with this, God had a plan from the beginning to send His Only Son, Jesus Christ to save His beloved children here on earth as a solution and answer to ridding our sin and the very nature of sin itself. It was not a burden for the Lord to save us, He willingly chose to, and without skipping a beat – He did and will redeem us one day very soon.
The Denial of the True Sacrificial Death
It was slightly mentioned here in this assessment so far, but one of the things that a Time Lord is able to do is regenerate. Regeneration is a process in which a Time Lord renews themselves causing a total physical and often psychological change within them. Regeneration can happen as a cause of severe illness, approaching death of some cause, old age/fatigue or invoked by choice – whether voluntary or involuntary. Regeneration could also be prevented by 18
choice voluntarily or involuntarily (Regeneration,Wikia, n.d). When a Time Lord regenerates upon approaching death, for example, he/she turns milky white (mostly seen in the original series) or begins to glow with a discharge of golden energy or light (constant in the current series). The Time Lord’s physical appearance would change (hence the change in actors over the years), and their personality. However, a Time Lord typically retains their memory of their past lives, companions and adventures, except for a few times they had a bit of amnesia after a regeneration. Time Lords have a cycle of 12 regenerations and 13 incarnations. After all of these are exhausted, they would suffer permanent death. However, at the 11th Doctors old age, he was granted a new cycle of regenerations from the Time Lords in Gallifrey, and it is not known how many they granted him specifically. So, after The Doctor dies, it is no big deal to the viewers, other than not seeing that particular actor in the show again. Doctor Who still goes on and everyone is satisfied. This act of regeneration is science fiction, but it creates a distorted view of Christ’s sacrificial death for all of us. Since The Doctor is portrayed as a Christ-like figure and there are many spiritual themes in Doctor Who the viewers of the show are seeing this dynamic of Christ’ one time sacrificial death not being enough. It is almost as if sacrificial death is made a mockery – as most of The Doctor’s regenerations were brought on as him sacrificing himself for someone else. Could it be that Satan is setting people up to see Christ as weak, only having to die once for us? Perhaps he’s setting people up to not believe in him at all. This could be true, and this could be one of the very verses that Satan is trying to move people’s minds from: “So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.” (Hebrews 9:28 NIV) However, this is the truth, and this is what must be presented to the world.
The Doctor’s True Character: Odin in Norse Mythology, Satan in the World’s History 19
It has been mentioned here in this assessment that The Doctor, while seemingly being portrayed as Christ is actually more characteristic of Satan. This dynamic has been proven using Scripture to counteract the counterfeits exemplified in The Doctors character, but attention will now be drawn to The Doctors own confession of his true character. We turn our attention back to the episode called ‘The Girl Who Died’ where The Doctor and his companion Clara travel to a Viking village. In this episode when The Doctor and Clara appear as the TARDIS lands in the village, The Doctor and Clara are surrounded by Viking warriors. To save himself and Clara, The Doctor tells the Viking warriors that he is Odin, and the Viking warriors become awe struck by The Doctor and the ‘magic’ that he does – so far as appearing out of nowhere in a great big box and pulling a few little tricks to keep the Viking warriors occupied. However, soon thereafter, a figure of the supposed ‘real’ Odin appears in the sky, he offers to take the warriors back to Valhalla (a sort of ‘heaven’ for those who have died in combat in Norse mythology) a squad of armored suits materialize, and then proceed to shoot the warriors with weapons which disintegrates them (Wikipedia, n.d). What was shown as an “Uh-Oh, I really messed up this time!” moment from The Doctor, was actually one of great significance. There are a few references to Norse mythology within the Doctor Who series (both the original and the current), and in the books, and audio series as well. For example, from the episode called ‘Silence in the Library’ with the 10th Doctor, The Doctor’s wife River Song (whom he did not know it was his wife at the time since this was before they wed, but River has all knowledge of The Doctor’s timeline), asked if he and her had went their picnic in Asgard yet, which is one of the Nine Worlds and home to the Æsir tribe of gods in Norse mythology (Wikipedia, n.d): 20

All of this is said to mention that if the principles of Norse mythology have already been so deeply ingrained in the show since the beginning, and spread throughout, then it was not for no reason that it was written in the show for The Doctor to announce that he is Odin. It was announced in such a way for the viewers to dismiss it, but upon close examination into what is said about Odin, it becomes very clear that this was not just a witty tactic by the writers to add spice to the episode. It was written in to show Doctor Who’s true allegiance, under the influence of Satan.
According to Norse mythology, Odin was the ruler of the Aesir tribes of deities, but he often ventured off far from his kingdom, Asgard on long solitary journeys wandering throughout the cosmos on self-interested quest. He is also deemed one of the most complex and enigmatic characters in Norse mythology – and his name can be translated into meaning the ‘master of ecstasy’. Odin is a relentless seeker of and giver of wisdom, however he has little care or regard for values, fairness, justice, and respect for law and convention. He is a war-god, but at the same 21
time a poetry-god, and a divine patron of rulers, and of outcasts. Odin is also said to have prominent effeminate qualities that would otherwise have brought shame to other mythical characters, but nevertheless, he is worshiped by individuals searching for honor, nobility and prestige. While he is worshiped, he is still often cursed for being a fickle trickster (norse-mythology.org). Looking at this overview of who Odin is, the contradictions in his character are shown. Moreover, it is seen how The Doctor and Odin are one in the same.
Like Odin, The Doctor ventured far from his home on the planet Gallifrey, after putting an end to the Time War, by hiding the entire planet of Gallifrey from what was called the ‘time lock’, he begins his time travelling adventures alone through the cosmos. The Doctor is always seen alone on his TARDIS at first, and once he travels back to earth, it is then when he finds a companion. The whole purpose of The Doctor’s time travelling is because he is on a constant run from himself and his past. He is riddled with guilt for what he did to his planet, and for all of the lives lost. The Doctor is also running from the question that must never be answered, as mentioned previously, as this has haunted him his entire life as well. There are also many episodes where The Doctor does travel alone, and the viewers get a glimpse into his solitude. The adventures that The Doctor often goes on are often of self-interest wanting to revisit certain places or go to places and time periods that he has not been. When he is with his companions, he often takes them on these kinds of journey’s or asks, ‘where and when’ they want to go.
The Doctor is also complex and enigmatic like Odin. His companions and other characters are often enamored by The Doctor’s mysteriousness and deepness. His home life and birth are also riddled in much complexity which his companions seek to understand, but The Doctor never utters many words about himself. Most other characters do not understand his deep train of thought or the way that he does things. The Doctor can also be said to be a man of many 22
sorrows due to his life of war and running from the man that he used to be, but still being in touch with the sorrows of bloodshed – but this is just another counterfeit of Jesus Christ, Who was not a Man of sorrows in this way (Isaiah 53:3).
A master of ecstasy is also another way to describe The Doctor. No matter which regeneration he was on, The Doctor still managed to maintain this. While each Doctor had different personalities and temperaments, each of them had this glow of an overwhelming feeling of joy and excitement. The 12th Doctor was more mellow than all the Doctors combined starting from the 9th Doctor in the new series, but even he was a ‘master of ecstasy’ of sorts as there were certain things and trips that would get him to this particular state. Overall, comparing each Doctor to his human companions and other characters in the show, there was no other character that had this kind of personality and it is one of the first things that a viewer notices about him, as it sets him apart from other characters in Doctor Who.
Again, another similarity is made as both Odin and The Doctor are seekers and givers of ‘wisdom’. The Doctor is always trying to find out how something works that he does not understand that originates from another planet, and species. In Doctor Who, this is considered wisdom. There is a blurring of the lines between wisdom and knowledge. For a character to know how to create a new species from a species that already exists, is considered wisdom in Doctor Who, because wisdom/intellect drives all forces in the show. However, an example of The Doctor seeking ‘wisdom’ is seen in every episode, but for instance in the episode called ‘Listen’, The Doctor becomes obsessed with finding out about a creature that hides and follows him around, and other people as well. The Doctor knows of every other creature in the universe, but this is one that has haunted him since his childhood when he first encountered feeling this creature grab his leg from under the bed as a boy. He searches all of time and space to figure out 23
what this creature is with his companion Clara, only to find out that it was Clara all along that grabbed his leg when he was a child. When The Doctor and Clara traveled that far back to his childhood, Clara was in the moment where she interfered in time, and quickly tried to change time by reassuring The Doctor that it was not some dark life form, but a friend that just wanted him to go back to sleep. The Doctor was simply afraid of the dark all his life. Likewise, The Doctor gives ‘wisdom’ to his companions when they travel with him. They learn of other galaxies, other life forms, languages, ways of life, planets and laws of the universe that was otherwise not known to them. However, this is all false and a counterfeit to God’s creation.
While The Doctor fights for fairness, justice, respect for the law and contention on the outward appearance, an objective look at Doctor Who will show that he really does not. Mostly, The Doctor fights for the interest of earth, with little regard for other planets. There have been episodes where aliens from other planets invaded or attacked earth and humans in horrible ways, but in some instances, there was a reason behind it. In Doctor Who, some of the aliens from other planets were probed by humans, as they sent probes into space. Most of the attacks to earth, were brought on by themselves. An example of this is seen in the episode called ‘The Hungry Earth’ with the 11th Doctor in which he and his companions Amy and Rory travel to the year 2020 on earth while a large drilling project is underway to drill down deeper into the earth’s crust than ever before. However, there is an entire city of an alien species called Silurian’s (the name is taken from the supposed Silurian period) living down there that are said to have occupied the earth long before humans according to Doctor Who. The Silurian’s were aware of the drilling which they were opposed to, so they began to kidnap humans. In the process of this, The Doctor and the humans caught one of the Silurian’s and kept her as a prisoner and demanded to know what they were doing. The Silurian, named Alaya, remarked that she knew one of the humans 24
were going to kill her and that this would spark a war between the Silurian’s and humans forever. The Doctor seemingly tries to make justice, but once again the viewers see him taking earth’s side, or what would be most convenient as opposed to opting for what would be considered fair in this fictional tale.
Again, like Odin, The Doctor is considered a ‘war-god’. He is a Time Lord of war as he fought in the Time War on his planet Gallifrey and is a skilled and trained war fighter. The word “doctor” is said to be translated to “might warrior” in the Gamma Forrest language used by some civilizations in the universe in Doctor Who. The Doctor knows what it’s like to kill and to lose people who have been killed in war and this is what he is running from throughout Doctor Who. In the episode called ‘The Girl Who Died’, The Doctor even trained the Viking villagers in the town to be warriors after Odin killed the Viking warriors to fight against the Mire who were controlled by Odin.
As stated prior, The Doctor has many witty quotes. He has a way of speaking in a poetry-like sense like Odin is said to, that captivates his audience, and draws people to him. Throughout Doctor Who, the viewers see how he has many friends in high places throughout the universe such as rulers of other planets or rulers on earth from the past such as Cleopatra, and Winston Churchill, and from the future such as Tasha Lem, Mother Superious of the Papal Mainframe Church (who will be analyzed later); for example. However, The Doctor also keeps company with his lowly companions who are considered outcasts.
When it comes to The Doctor’s personality, he is extremely flamboyant in most of his regenerations. The 11th Doctor embodies his flamboyance the most and it can be said that he is quite effeminate as he is not the typical manly character. The way The Doctor flails about in his high energy way, makes this obvious. The Doctor’s personality draws his companions to him, 25
but it often annoys his rivals. Like Odin, The Doctor is also a fickle trickster by winning many of his battles by tricking his opponents.
A False Representation of the Holy Spirit
Shockingly, Doctor Who portrays a false representation of the Holy Spirit through The Doctors companion Clara Oswald. The Doctor first meets Clara as a child, although it is not presented that way at first in the show. As Clara becomes The Doctor’s companion in her adulthood, The Doctor constantly sees Clara die, but later he seems to find her again at some other point in time – however she can only remember fragments of her past journeys with The Doctor. The Doctor begins to call Clara his ‘impossible girl’ and becomes obsessed with finding out who or what she is. Eventually, it is found that Clara was always and forever is in The Doctors time stream when she stepped into it. Eventually, she escapes his time stream and it is for this reason why she only remembers fragments of her life with The Doctor – which become echoes of her life. However, because of the way that Doctor Who is set up, after an event happens, that event never stops because The Doctor can control time; always travelling back to certain things. Therefore, Clara is forever locked in The Doctor’s time stream. In other words, she is one with him. Clara is one with Doctor, but she is a mere shadow, or echo. Clara even knew The Doctors real name in an alternate timeline. It is difficult to understand where she comes from and where she goes thereafter. Even in the episode called ‘Face the Raven’ which was supposed to be of Clara’s final death, she was still able to bend around that – travelling through a certain pocket in time and space (back in time just before her death) with Ashildr (who was the one that kills her accidentally) in their own spaceship. Clara is technically dead during this part of the show, as The Doctor even checks for a heartbeat or pulse, and she doesn’t have one. At this point, Clara is a technically a ‘spirit’. In the episode ‘The Name of the Doctor’ the 26
viewers see Clara forever falling in The Doctors time stream, and flashbacks of instances where Clara intervened in The Doctors life. Even so far back as to the original series where The Doctor was stealing the TARDIS, it was Clara who told him which one to get and why it was the better one.
However according to God’s Word, this is totally contrary to how the Holy Spirit operates. The Bible says: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” (John 14:26 NKJV, emphasis added) and: “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” (John 16:13 NKJV) It is clear that the Holy Spirit does not speak on His own accord, but whatever He receives from the Father – the message regarding the Son (John 16:13 amplified). Clara on the contrary speaks from her own accord, influencing The Doctor throughout his time stream, and the viewers see this interaction the most in the episode ‘The Name of The Doctor’. We also see how Clara is a false representation of the Holy Spirit considering her ability to be as a vapor in time – not knowing from where she comes or goes, not even The Doctor. Even at the end of her life, she becomes a sort of spirit like character – ultimately being dead but let living. This is totally contrary to the Holy Spirit as Scripture tells us that the Holy Spirit was always in existence and will always be.
The Master and Ashildr: Front-men for Satan
Like any hero themed character, there will always be a villain. In the episodes with The Master and The Doctor, the viewers of Doctor Who, get an intense encounter of what the show would consider battles between the forces of good and evil. The Master is also a Time Lord that grew up with The Doctor on Gallifrey. The pair were said to be close friends growing up, until 27
The Doctor made a deal with the personification of Death, telling Death that it should rather make The Master it’s student rather than him. In their adult years, The Master becomes The Doctors nemesis and arch-enemy or arch-frenemy, as there were times when they become allies. By 2007 in Doctor Who time, The Master calls himself Harold Saxton and has become established on earth and is the Minister of Defense of Great Britain and is running for Prime Minister of Great Britain, in the episode ‘The Sound of Drums’. He was eventually elected in 2008 as Prime Minister in the show. According to Doctor Who, Saxton/The Master was trying to convince Britain at this time, that extraterrestrial life did exist, and that Britain needed to do something about it. The entire episode had the feel to some of the misconceptions about the antichrist. In the episode and others with The Master, we see this other being from another world coming to earth, setting himself up in a position of power, became very popular among the people, controlling the masses, then eventually going on to running the entire world for a year. This is how things are laid out in Doctor Who when it comes to The Master, however, this is a real misconception about the antichrist and it is not biblical. Even the episode called ‘The End of Time’ where President Obama is now in office in the episode, but The Master makes the President and every citizen a carbon copy of himself, traces of Revelation 13 are shown in particular. Many people, both Christian and non-Christian have heard stories of the antichrist and are looking for the antichrist to be one man, to do things such as The Master/Harold Saxton did in Doctor Who. However, when people see this, it just plays on lies that have been fed to them time and time again. It imprints this image and theme in their minds again, so that when things in the world take an even deeper plunge for the worse, this is what they are looking for, and they completely miss that the antichrist is a power not a person – that is actually already in existance today. Hence, The Master is just a front-man for Satan, and even a false front-man at that. He is 28
an idea, a false representation, a misconception, a theme and a scheme to draw people’s attention away from the papal power – attempting to make it that much easier for people to slowly slip into accepting the mark of the beast.
Moreover, after The Master dies, he regenerates into a woman and thereafter goes by the name Missy. In opening for Missy in one of the episodes of Doctor Who, a familiar song is sung “Hey Missy, you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind, hey Missy…” This seems insignificant; however, Satan will often use familiar things, or sometimes in other cases innocent things to break down our resistance to sin. The Master was ruthless. A very cruel character in which it was blatant in whom the writers were trying to portray (Satan). While Missy was evil as well, she was on a lesser level of evil than The Master if there even is such a thing. Missy was… likeable. Missy was the kind of evil character that made you laugh. The kind of character you hated to love. Missy was also complicated because there were scenes where Missy was shown in this “Heaven-like” place in the episode called ‘Death in Heaven’, where Missy would visit and greet people who died in connection with The Doctor. An evil character that visits Heaven? As strange as it sounds, it was shown in Doctor Who. While creating much destruction and havoc, Missy teamed up with The Doctor on occasion as well, even though they were still enemies.
Nevertheless, Missy was also apart The Master, and still a front-man for Satan to break down people’s resistance to sin and to evil. It is also plausible that Missy’s character is a front to prepare people’s minds to for Satan’s scheme to come falsely as Christ as she portrayed a likeable (but evil on the inside) character. However, Jesus says: “For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand. Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it.” (Matthew 24:24-26 NKJV) After all, 29
eventually Missy just became a funny and fun character to watch for most people; and a likeable one. Many viewers probably even rooted for her and rooted for Missy and The Doctor mending their friendship. Jesus also says: “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:” (Matthew 25:41 NKJV) Clearly, Satan and his angels will be burned up in the fire from God that is prepared for them. There will be no repentance from Satan or second chances given to him.
Like The Master, the same thing applies to Ashildr. As stated before, Ashildr was given immortality by The Doctor, but she went on to become a villain of The Doctor as well. However, it can be said that Ashildr was just lost, and became a villain by circumstance. This would be a fan or a writer of Doctor Who’s interpretation, but Ashildr’s behavior and choices stem deeper than the fate she was given. Again, we see the same dynamic of Satan attempting to weaken or break down individual’s resistance and acceptance of sin and wickedness. While Ashildr as Lady Me was an evil character, the viewers had sympathy for her because of her pain of all the death that she had seen throughout her immortality, the feeling of being lost, not being able to love out of fear of her partners dying, and the simple fact that she never had a choice to say that she wanted to live forever. Lady Me was miserable, and the only way she knew how to cope with that was to lash out and harm and kill others. So, when Lady Me would do awful things and kill or torment, she would kind of get a pass by the viewers in a sense. However, this does not make things right because cognitively, the individual watching these interactions and mixing their emotions in with them, are blurring the lines between reality and fiction even more than what their brain already is; and they are becoming emotionally involved with the show. Because of this, their emotions are expressed physically (Ritsema, 2013). When we blur the lines of reality and fiction in this sense, we can easily fall into the trap of thinking that sin is not that bad, and 30
that there is nothing wrong with accepting something false. Downplaying sin is something that Satan wants us to do, and it is for this reason that Ashildr/Lady Me appears to be one of his fictional front-men that he is using in Doctor Who to set the stage for his real counterfeit. However, the Bible tells us that “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23 NKJV) Psalm 101:3 is what we should all strive for: “I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me.” We must not set our eyes toward these wicked things, so that the enemy does not gain a foothold into our hearts to implant any of his wicked schemes.
Bad Wolf: The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9847_BEaLlM
Another companion of The Doctor’s had quite an interesting story that lead to her ultimate significance within the Doctor Who series. Rose Tyler, The Doctor’s first companion and first love interest in the current series is found to have an alternate alias after she takes on a different form – which is called “Bad Wolf” in Doctor Who. It is more appropriate to say that ‘Bad Wolf’ is an entity, as it is described this way on the Wikia page, and this entity becomes a part of Rose. In Doctor Who in the episode ‘The Parting of the Ways’, the viewers learn that ‘Bad Wolf’ is the Time Vortex, and after looking into the heart of the TARDIS (the TARDIS is said to be alive in Doctor Who, and there are episodes where the viewers see this dynamic), the Time Vortex itself fills Rose, and she temporarily becomes the Bad Wolf entity. As Bad Wolf, Rose scattered the words “Bad Wolf” “throughout time as a sign to herself that she was linked to The Doctor, creating a looped ontological paradox” (Bad Wolf (entity), n.d, p. 1). Before the viewers learn that it was Rose who has done this, throughout the show the viewers see the words “Bad Wolf” written everywhere, hidden in plain sight – sometimes viewed unconsciously, as I 31
distinctly remember this. It was exactly like a commercial or marketing ad where marketers strategically place something in the scene, the camera flashes on it ever so quickly – just enough for your eyes to catch it, so that the product is imprinted in your mind Mayer, 2006). When the episode airs where it rewinds backs all the episodes where the words “Bad Wolf” were strategically placed, my memory was flooded with seeing those words.
When Bad Wolf is shown, she still looks like Rose, but her eyes glow with light, and there is a bright light shown around her, as the viewers can see she is no longer a simple young adult anymore, but something much more. Rose no longer has her normal London native British accent, but sounds like a different woman and makes some chilling statements such as “I create myself”, “I take the words, I scatter them through time and space.” The viewers also learn of Bad Wolf’s goddess like power as she wipes out an entire fleet of Daleks, and even the Dalek Emperor, which no one had ever been able to do single handedly. Bad Wolf even raises Captain Jack Harkness from the dead and makes him immortal when she does. Captain Jack does not find out his immortality is due to Bad Wolf until later in the show. In fact, should Bad Wolf raise anyone from the dead, they become immortal. It is interesting to note here that Captain Jack was always one of the ‘good’ characters, even after his immortality. He never hated life after becoming immortal; in fact, he thrived, and fought for the forces of good even more. However, when The Doctor makes Ashildr immortal the viewers see quite the opposite as she hates her immortality and becomes miserable and a villain. Satan is using Doctor Who to attempt to show that the immortality that God has to offer (The Doctor = God and Christ like portrayed character) will only make you miserable. Therefore, there is no need to be saved. However, Satan (Bad Wolf) claims to offer immortality, and it is desirable, you will thrive, and it is all you could ever 32
want, but this is a total and complete lie to get people stuck on the cares of this world, and to fall down and worship him.
When The Doctor pleads with Rose to stop and let the Time Vortex go or else she’ll burn because she can’t handle all of that power, Bad Wolf/Rose replies “I want you safe. My Doctor. Protected from the false god.” This false god that Bad Wolf was referring to is the Dalek Emperor. To forcefully stop Rose and save her from dying, The Doctor took on The Vortex’s energy into his own body, which prompted his regeneration. The Complete Bad Wolf speech is linked above. Let’s review this.
In Doctor Who Rose Tyler is considered a normal young woman who was 19 years old at the time when she first met the 9th Doctor (the first Doctor in the current series). The current series kicks off with Rose living at home with her single mother, with Rose working in retail, trying to make ends meet. She lived a basic life, had a normal boyfriend, and never knew her father, but often heard stories about him. Rose left school with little educational achievement, and can be characterized as slightly naïve, not knowing much about life except for her home life, but she has a big heart. However, when she met The Doctor (after he accidentally blew up her retail store), she sheepishly followed him wherever he went – no questions asked. She forsook everything to spend her life travelling with The Doctor; occasionally going back home to visit her family and her boyfriend who she eventually broke up with. The Doctor led her into some very dangerous and life-threatening situations, and he regretted it and wanted to take her home on a few occasions, but Rose did not care because as she grew older, she realized she loved The Doctor, and the feeling was mutual.
This now brings us to the question of: If Bad Wolf was so good, (destroying evil aliens, saving The Doctor’s life, bringing a good guy back to life to live forever), why is she called the 33
“Bad Wolf” of all things? This, we may never know, but one thing can be assumed is that it appears Satan has attempted to weave in a counterfeit of the events that will take place in the last days. First, focusing on some of Bad Wolf’s statement’s, she says that “I create myself.” This scene originally gave me chills, but after seeing it again, the Holy Spirit showed me this scene for what it really is. Who else created themselves? We know that God created Lucifer, but did He create Satan? Certainly not. Lucifer created Satan as Satan stemmed from Lucifer’s own sin and imagination. In other words, he created his own demise, not God. When Jesus said: “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it” (John 8:44 NKJV), He is referring to Satan pulling from his own resources which he created. If we choose to lie, or pull from the pot of those resources, we are pulling from something Satan started and created, not God – for God cannot and does not sin. Bad Wolf created herself, as Satan created himself, but this is no creation to glory in at all. Bad Wolf also said: “I take the words, I scatter them through time and space.” In the context of Doctor Who, she meant the literal words “Bad Wolf”. However, does it seem like there is a deeper message here? In this scene, Bad Wolf takes the words “Bad Wolf” off of the top of a door that say’s “Bad Wolf Corporation”, and as she does this, they scatter looking jumbled and move from off the screen. They went from being readable, to a confused mess, as Bad Wolf scattered them and moved them elsewhere. This sounds awfully similar to a tactic that Satan uses when trying to trick and confuse people by using Scripture. The Bible says that people do this too: “as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.” (2 Peter 3:16 NKJV) When Satan 34
counterfeits Scripture, he does not take new doctrine to replace God’s Word. He takes the original (God’s Word) and twist some things to cause confusion. It is for this reason that Scripture says the antichrist power sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God, and exalting himself above God (2 Thessalonians 2:4). In a way, Satan really does take the Words (of God), and he scatters them (twisting them, creating false doctrines) throughout time (earth’s history). More quotes from Bad Wolf/Rose in the episode ‘The Parting of the Ways’ gives examples of this:
Bad Wolf to the Dalek: “You are tiny. I can see the whole of time and space. Every single atom of your existence, and I divide them.”
Bad Wolf: “Everything must come to dust. All things. Everything dies. The Time War ends.”
Bad Wolf: “How can I let go of this? I bring life. (Captain Jack Harkness breathes again)”
The Doctor: “But this is wrong! You can’t control life and death.”
Bad Wolf: “But I can. The sun and the moon, the day and night. But why do they hurt?”
Bad Wolf: “I can see everything. All that is, all that was, all that ever could be.”
All these quotes are more characteristic of things that only God has control over. However, we have seen that Rose/Bad Wolf is not God, but actually more characteristic of Satan trying to usurp God’s position, as he will try to do in these last days, in real life. It was interesting when Bad Wolf asked why the sun and moon hurts. The Doctor never directly answered Bad Wolf’s question, but Scripture does. My mind instantly went to Revelation chapter 12 which starts out saying: “Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. 2 Then being with child, 35
she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.” (Revelation 12:1-2 NKJV) The answer to Bad Wolf’s question lies here in Scripture, as the woman/church was hurting because of persecution by Satan, but the solution also lies here in Scripture as we know that Jesus Christ overcame Satan, but Doctor Who doesn’t go so far as to mention these details.
If holding references to Bad Wolf up against Scripture is not convincing enough for someone, take another episode of Doctor Who, where the show itself seems to out Bad Wolf as an entity that is not of good origins at all. In this clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma4bLfkdwuE) from the episode called ‘The Unquiet Dead’, The Doctor and Rose are back in Cardiff in 1869 with Charles Dickens. The dead seem to be roaming the street and it is up to The Doctor, Rose and Dickens to find out what is going on. Aside from the issue of the dead roaming the streets, a séance being performed in the episode, talk of being reunited with loved ones who are currently in heaven now, and a plethora of other false teachings, in the clip Rose is speaking to a character from 1869 named Gwyneth about life in Cardiff in that era. Rose believes that Gwyneth does not know The Doctor or her are from other time periods, but Gwyneth has clairvoyant abilities and has seen that The Doctor and Rose are not of that time. She starts to mention things about London and the metal boxes zipping in the streets, and the metal birds in the air with people flying in them. At one point before this as Gwyneth and Rose were talking about men, Gwyneth was taken aback at Rose’s ‘less than modest’ personality she says: “I swear miss, you’ve got all the clothes and the breeding, but you talk like some sort of wild thing!” Rose stops laughing and her demeaner changes as she has a dark and serious look on her face and says: “Maybe I am. Maybe that’s a good thing.” Eventually Gwyneth see’s through her clairvoyance that Rose has flown farther than anyone and says: “And you, you’ve flown so far, farther than anyone. The things you’ve seen. The 36
darkness. The big Bad Wolf.” This episode occurs before Rose looks into the Time Vortex, to even become Bad Wolf, as that episode is the last of the first series. Gwyneth could have been looking into Rose’s future, but in an episode (Tooth and Claw), that occurs in the series 2, Rose meets with a humanoid canine called the werewolf host who tells her that she also has “something of the wolf” in her. Even though the Bad Wolf entity had been taken out of her by the previous Doctor, after this encounter, it is presumed that Rose always had this wolf like personality in her and it never left her. Rose was always a wolf in sheep’s clothing – it was just unlocked when she took in the Time Vortex and became Bad Wolf. More proof from the show involves the TARDIS itself. As stated before, in Doctor Who, the TARDIS is alive and breathes. The TARDIS never liked any of The Doctor’s companions, nor would it let any of them touch many of the control buttons, but it liked Rose from the start – probably because it knew they were both one in the same; wolf’s in sheep’s clothing. The Bible says: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.” (Matthew 7:15 NKJV)
The Doctor’s Wife: Judas Iscariot and Possibly the Woman of Revelation 17
While The Doctor and Rose loved each other, they did not and could not spend their lives together. In the episode ‘Doomsday’, The Doctor and Rose were forever separated. However, The Doctor did go on to marry River Song (Who’s original name was Melody Pond), a character who is Amy Pond’s and Rory Williams daughter – conceived in the TARDIS as it traveled through the Time Vortex which ultimately made her half human with some Time Lord DNA; thus, she was called “a child of the TARDIS”. River has known The Doctor all her life, although he seems to never have recollection of how they met until it was reveled in an episode of who and how River came to be (since she is a grown woman at her third regeneration). Amy and Rory 37
never get a chance to raise Melody, as she was kidnapped from them when she was a baby by Madame Kovarian to become a weapon for a religious order called the Silence against The Doctor in their war against him. She was raised by the Silence and her sole purpose was to kill The Doctor.
River eventually does kill The Doctor against her will, but she tries to go to an alternate paradox and tries to change this many times until she fixes things, because she is in love with him. In the episode ‘The Wedding of River Song’, The Doctor and River Song marry (not formally, but they repeat some vows, kiss, and consider themselves married). Considering that we have seen that The Doctor is portrayed as a Christ-like figure, but in an upside-down way, it would be assumed that his wife would be a false representation of God’s true church. However, this is far from true. Doctor Who has joined The Doctor or the “Christ-like” figure with the harlot church of Revelation 17, mystery Babylon – making it seem as if the false church is Christ’s true church. Let’s back up a little bit to explain this.
River Song = Judas Iscariot
Before River took on the name River Song, she was Melody Pond as a baby, as a child, she escaped the Silences’ control. However, she contracted a deadly disease and died in the streets of New York City. She knew that she could regenerate, so she did, however she regenerated into a baby again. She grew up again and went by the name Mels, but was once back under the Silences’ training. She knew her mother and father were Amy and Rory, so by the time she was their age she went to school with them and befriended them. She already knew of their life, how it would play out, and she knew of The Doctor. Nothing Amy told her new best friend Mels about him was a surprise. Mels lived a life of criminal behavior, as she was a reckless individual. Eventually, in the episode called ‘Let’s Kill Hitler’, Mels gets shot, and regenerates 38
into River Song, and it is then when The Doctor, Amy and Rory find out that Mels was River all along, as they had met River at other points in time before. At the onset of River’s regeneration, she was her true self. Set, and dedicated on killing The Doctor because it was at this stage that the Silence planned for her to kill him (during this particular regeneration). River then puts on lipstick laced with Judas tree poison and kisses The Doctor in an attempt to kill him.
Of all the things River could have used, she uses lipstick laced with Judas tree poison. Jesus was once betrayed with a kiss, by his equal, his companion, a man he loved and kept close to him – Judas Iscariot (Luke 22:48). I do not believe this scene in Doctor Who was a coincidence. Like Judas betrayed Jesus which ultimately led to his death, River betrayed The Doctor, coming to him throughout his life as a companion, friend and his wife, but ultimately killed him during his 11th regeneration. As death could not hold Jesus, death did not hold The Doctor, however the counterfeit here was that River was the one who reversed what she did to make The Doctor live again during his 11th regeneration. It is as if to say ‘Judas’ betrayed Jesus, but ended up feeling guilty and saved Him from death; which denies the sacrificial death that Jesus had to pay for us. Obviously, the viewers are not seeing the dynamic between Judas and Jesus, but the parallel is the same with some major discrepancies and counterfeits.
River Song: The connection to the Woman of Revelation 17
Revelation 17 describes this other woman opposite to the woman described as God’s bide or church. Revelation 17 describes this other woman as the “great harlot who sits on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.” She sits on a “scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup 39
full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication.” In the episodes called ‘The Husbands of River Song’, the viewers learn that River has actually had a few husbands, and is married to another man in the episode while still married to The Doctor (even though she was tricking and using that man to steal the diamond in his head). In this episode, she thought The Doctor was dead, as she was not aware that he was granted more regenerations from the council in Gallifrey, so when she met the 12th Doctor, she did not know it was him, and he did not tell her until towards the end of the episode. However, River goes on and rambles about all these marriages that she’s had, even while she knew The Doctor was alive – even two marriages with women. River Song was always in love with The Doctor, but was always a fornicator. The man River is married to in ‘The Husbands of River Song’ is a king, River was also said to have been married to Cleopatra, and a real-life actor named Stephen Fry. In Doctor Who, these people can be said to be people of high status, leaders, and certainly rulers – especially Cleopatra. The People that River was married to were infatuated with her and we can even say – “drunk with the wine of her fornication.” While many fans adore River Song, she can be quite confusing. Fighting for the forces of good and claiming to be one of the ‘good guys’ but using deceptive tactics is more characteristic of tactics used by spiritual Babylon, rather than God’s true church. River’s personality is also more characteristic of a harlot rather than a pure and virtuous woman as well.
River Song and Norse Mythology: Frigg, Odin’s Wife
Like The Doctor as mentioned previously, it appears that River Song’s character also has ties to Norse mythology as well. In Norse mythology, Frigg is Odin’s wife. Frigg is said to be the goddess associated with foreknowledge and wisdom in Norse mythology, and she is ambiguously associated with earth (Wikipedia, n.d). Frigg is also said to be associated with other goddesses named Fulla, Lofn, Hlín, and Gná. Fulla was a goddess that tended to the ashen box 40
and the footwear owned by Frigg and in return, Frigg confides in Fulla her secrets. (Wikipedia, n.d.) Lofn is described as the comforter, mild or loving and the arranger of marriages. Hlín was said to be another name for Frigg, and this name for her appeared in the poetic Edda poem Völuspá, where Hlín receives a mention of the foretold death of Odin, the poem says this: “Then is fulfilled Hlín’s second sorrow, when Óðinn (Odin) goes to fight with the wolf, and Beli’s slayer, bright, against Surtr. Then shall Frigg’s sweet friend fall” (emphasis added). Lastly, Gná is said to be a goddess who runs on errands around other worlds for Frigg (Wikipedia, n.d, pg. 1).
In the context of River Song, the complexity of River’s character first must be understood. River’s life and timeline is introduced in Doctor Who in a jumbled manner, with the pieces not put together until much later in the show. The viewers see River’s life from various aspects and at different points of her meetings with The Doctor. Some of River’s life is left to the viewers to piece together as well, based off hints and things that River has said. While Doctor Who is not based on River’s perspective, many of the episodes that River Song is in are quite looked at from her perspective. While Frigg and three of the other goddesses are said to be separate entities, in the context of Doctor Who, it is very clear how River portrays all four goddesses. As Fulla tends to the ashen box and receives secrets from Frigg, River tends to her diary that was given to her by The Doctor in which she was instructed to keep accounts of all her meetings with The Doctor and their adventures together. The Doctor also instructed River to not tell him of anything written in the diary, and he never peaked in it the time that it was in his possession, mentioning that foreknowledge is dangerous. River is the keeper of many, if not all secrets about The Doctor as she has been up and down his timeline, meeting him at several different points. River is also said to know The Doctor’s name, after he whispered it to her in one 41
episode, which is the ultimate secret of the universe. Because River has been up and down The Doctor’s timeline, meeting him in the past, present and future, and due to her special training that she has received since childhood of her mission to kill The Doctor, she has foreknowledge of his life, and his death and, actually, written in her diary is the date and time of The Doctor’s death, which she spends some time in pursuit of. Not only does River Song have foreknowledge, and carry deep secrets, but she also has what is considered profound wisdom of the TARDIS, and how to fly it. No other character in Doctor Who has this, except The Doctor, but for some reason, the TARDIS (which is alive and has a heart according to Doctor Who), is very comfortable with River, and it is even shown that River flies the TARDIS better than The Doctor. River is clearly Frigg, in the context of her foreknowledge but also clearly Fulla in the context of being the keeper of her diary filled with secrets that only she knows, and that only she has referred to throughout different points in time (the past, present and future River Song).
River Song as Lofn is easily seen in River’s 2nd Regeneration, when she goes by the name of Mels. While Mel’s was a rebel and often got in trouble with the law, when it came to her best friend Amy Pond (who was her mother), she was very loving and comforting towards her. While Amy had no idea at this point that Mel’s was actually her future daughter Melody Pond, Amy often found herself instinctively disciplining Mel’s when she did wrong, how a mother would with her child, and while Mel’s found this annoying, she adhered to Amy, and loved her dearly. The whole point of Mel’s going to her mother’s school back in that time was to spend time with her, because she was taken from her parents as a child and she knew they would never get to raise her. It was Mel’s who brought her parents together and helped Amy to see that Rory, her future father; loved Amy and wanted to marry her. Amy was not fond of Rory, but Mel’s showed her that Rory just had a tough time expressing his love for Amy. Mel’s put the pair 42
together, and Amy and Rory eventually dated, which led to their wedding. Just like Loftn, Mel’s was an arranger of marriages as well.
Hlín was another name for Frigg, and as we have seen already, River Song went by other names as well such as Mels, Melody Pond, Melody Malone, and Sister Cantica. Referring to Hlín in the poem above, according to Norse mythology, Hlín’s second sorrow is when Odin goes to fight the with wolf. In Norse mythology, ‘the wolf’s’ name is Fenrir, and he is sometimes called the monster of the river Ván. It is interesting how this story from Norse mythology involves a wolf that Odin fights, which is also called ‘the monster of the river Ván’ (emphasis added), as this is an interesting play on words and story line to Doctor Who. In Doctor Who, River Song’s name is also a play on words of sorts, and translations. It is found out in the episode called ‘Battle of Demons Run’ (River/Melody was born on Demons Run) that River Song is translated to ‘Melody Pond’ in the language Gamma Forests. River hands her mother Amy a prayer leaf with her name ‘Melody Pond’ on it showing this translation, so that Amy can finally learn that River Song was her daughter all along.
We have also seen that The Doctor is truly portrayed as Odin in Doctor Who, and in attempt to save Rose, he takes on the Bad Wolf entity himself and transfers it back to the TARDIS. It is not directly mentioned in Doctor Who, but having watched much of the show it is clear that the ‘bad wolf’ entity was in the TARDIS, but ultimately stems from the universe in the Time Vortex, and it is a dark force (whether the show admits this or not) that The Doctor constantly has to fight against, that drives everything which ultimately leads in his death (several times).
River as Gná is seen as River runs around the universe either sent to save The Doctor, or on her own missions escaping imprisonment, or stealing something valuable for herself (because 43
she is both portrayed as Frigg and Gná). If River is not on adventures through the universe for these reasons, she is on missions for the Silence, in her youth training for the day that she will kill The Doctor. River on errand going missions and adventures is seen in every episode that she is in.
Tasha Lem also as the Woman of Revelation 17
The other woman in Revelation 17 is also seen as sitting on a scarlet beast full of names of blasphemy. Referring to River; then known as Melody Pond’s early childhood years, she was raised and trained by a religious alien order called the Silence. The Silence, bearing the appearance of the famous “Men in Black’ (just looking like aliens), were created by Tasha Lem, who was the Mother Superious of the Papal Mainframe which is the space church of the Silence. Tasha Lem was said to be very powerful, even summoning The Doctor to the Papal Mainframe by taking control of the TARDIS in ‘The Time of The Doctor’. The Papal Mainframe was said to have its own military force and weaponry as well. The scarlet beast counterfeit in Doctor Who is the Silence. The real scarlet beast of Revelation 17 is the papal power. How fitting for the church of the Silence to be called the ‘Papal Mainframe’ in Doctor Who – this is no coincidence. Also, how fitting it is for Tasha Lem to be called the ‘Mother Superious’ of the Papal Mainframe: “And on her forehead a name was written: 44
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” (Revelation 17:5 NKJV) Tasha Lem is also shown dressed in purple, with scarlet colored hair, a jewel on her head, and a scarlet colored rug in her
domain:
I cannot find this video clip, but there is a scene in this episode called ‘The Time of the Doctor’ where Tasha Lem asks Clara if she can speak to The Doctor in private, and she takes him into her private chambers. The Doctor sits on Tasha’s bed, and she slightly tries to seduce him and 45
offers him a cup of wine while they disuse some important matters. Here is a photo from that scene:
This scene is a direct counterfeit of Revelation 17:2 which says: “with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”
The Silence and The Pharisees, and the Papal Power
The Silence was already mentioned a little above, but they were a religious order created by Tasha Lem, in Doctor Who. The Silences’ church is said to be the Papal Mainframe or the 46
Church of the Papal Mainframe – which is a space church led by Tasha Lem. Visitors of the church had to arrive without clothing or wear holographic clothes in which all employees of the Papal Mainframe were trained to see through. The Silence were trying to kill The Doctor to prevent a prophecy being fulfilled which was: “On the fields of Trenzalore (the planet of The 11th Doctor’s resting place), at the fall of the eleventh, when no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a Question will be asked, a question that must never, ever be answered.” This question is the question that is hidden in plain sight which is “Doctor Who?” The Church of the Silence was created to prevent The Doctor from answering this question (The Silence, Wikia, n.d.). The Organization of the Silence starts with genetically engineered priests which were called the Silents who used post-hypnotic suggestion to manipulate other beings into doing their bidding. All memory of the Silents would be erased from the individual after the person looked away from them (The Silence,Wikia, n.d.). The gist of the Silence is that they preferred silence over truth or facts, much like the Pharisees during Jesus’ earthly ministry. The Pharisees were more intent on silencing Jesus and His doctrines, than hearing the truth for their own interest. More so than that, the Silence blatantly resembles the papacy.
As in Revelation 17, the beast is seen with a harlot woman riding on it. As already mentioned, it seems that in the context of Doctor Who, Tasha Lem/Mother Superious could be the counterfeit for this other woman, or according to Scripture symbolism this other church that has gone astray from God. It is no coincidence that the way this woman is described in Revelation 17: “The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup…” (Revelation 17:4a NKJV) is the same manner in which many of the Catholic cardinals (scarlet), bishops (purple) and the pope (adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls having a golden cup in his hand) dress. It was just another symbol ontop of the 47
others within this Scripture that God gave man so that we can open our eyes and see clearly what God was trying to tell us. In the context of Doctor Who, it is also interesting that the writers of the show would name the Silences’ church, the Church of the Papal Mainframe (emphasis added). With a closer look at the names of planets, characters, and alien species; you will find that they are sometimes named after things in mythology, Scripture (sadly), or are otherwise made up. Of all the names the writers could have come up with for a church, they choose one with ‘Papal’ in it, which I do not believe is a coincidence. Whether done on purpose or not is up to speculation, but it does seem sure that Satan inspired this. In the episode ‘Day of the Moon’ the Silence make a comment to The Doctor saying that they have been on earth since humanities beginning, secretly manipulating humanity, and its development to their own ends (The Silence, Wikia, n.d.) – even being responsible for the moon landing because they needed a special spacesuit for River Song. However, it was rather Satan who was on the earth since humanities beginning, but he wants the attention diverted from himself.
Moreover, considering the Papal Mainframe, in the episode ‘A Good Man Goes to War’ a character named Colonel Manton refers to the church as “the Papal Mainframe herself”, as one would address the real-world Papacy or Catholic church as ‘her’ or ‘herself’. Just as the Pharisees persecuted Christ, and just as Rome and the Papacy will ultimately persecute God’s people (for Christ’ sake), the Silence’s sole purpose is to persecute The Doctor (the seemingly portrayed Christ-like figure) and to stop him at any cost. However, the Doctor Who account is still not true, because we know that the persecution does not come from fictional space aliens.
Occultism and Spiritualism
Occultism and spiritualism is so rampant in Doctor Who, it’s almost hard to pick any one example, because it’s seen all throughout the show and in almost every episode. I briefly touched 48
on it in the previous part, but in the episode ‘The Unquiet Dead’, the dead are seen walking the streets of Cardiff. The Doctor, Rose and the other characters conduct a séance to try to communicate with the dead after seeing ghostly appearances of people throughout the home and after seeing these ‘spirits’ travelling through the pipes. Eventually it is found that it is not the dead actually coming back, but rather an alien species called Gelth that possesses the bodies of corpses because they wanted a form. One of the characters named Gwyneth in ‘The Unquiet Dead’ is said to be clairvoyant and the Gelth choose to possess her and speak through her when she stands at the Rift, a gap between their world and the real world (in Doctor Who). As they speak through Gwyneth, they identify themselves at the Gelth, a gaseous humanoid form species whose bodies were destroyed in the Last Great Time War, and they mention that the only way they will survive is if they come through the Rift and take over dead bodies. The only issue is that the Gelth make a statement and say that the number of them is “a few billion”, therefore dead bodies alone will not be enough, and they will have to kill people and possess their bodies. This scene in ‘The Unquiet Dead’ oddly resembled Mark chapter 5, when Jesus casted out the devil of the possessed man: “For He said to him, “Come out of the man, unclean spirit!” Then He asked him, “What is your name?” And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.” (Mark 5:8-9 NKJV) However, the counterfeit here is that Gwyneth is a woman, and she referred to the Gelth as her “angels”. Gwyneth did not want to let her demons go, whereas the formerly possessed man was exceedingly glad. 49
There are other episodes where there are aliens that are presented as spirits walking among earth or some other planet, monsters hiding in the dark, Donna Noble seeking a fortune teller in the episode ‘Turn Left’ and the infamous Weeping Angels – which were seen in a few episodes. The Weeping Angels were a species of aliens that were stuck as statues (they were statues of angels). They presented themselves as normal statues when you looked at them, but the moment you took your eyes off of them, they already moved closer to you. The closer the Weeping Angels got to you, the eviler and ‘demonic’ they looked, showing you their true form. 50
The closer they got to you with your eyes off of them, they would kill you. So far as occultism, this is sometimes seen in a subtler way, but it is mostly seen in the one eye symbol, or all-seeing eye symbol of the Eye of Horus. Here is an example when The Doctor and Amy Pond were looking through the crack of time in space when it was wide, and an eye was looking back at them:
Another example is when the characters of the show had to wear these eye patches in the episode ‘The Wedding of River Song’:
Other examples:
52
In the episode ‘The Satan Pit’, the viewers meet the author of this spiritualism. The Doctor rambles about how Satan crops up in so many religions and on so many planets, but perhaps Satan in the end is nothing but an idea. In this episode, Satan calls himself ‘the Beast’. He plays on the characters fears and predicts what will happen to Rose in the future, of her dying in battle, and he refers to The Doctors past in the Time War. With everyone freighted, The Doctor tries to calm them down and reassure them that they have strength in numbers and that the Beast is just playing on their fears. In the end, The Doctor comes face to face with the Beast, and it defies everything he has every believed. The Doctor finds ancient drawings on the walls of the pit that he finds the Beast in of the battle with the Beast’s, his defeat, and imprisonment in the pit. The Doctor then see’s the Beast and figures in his mind that he is only seeing the physical form – the mind of the idea of the devil (Wikia, Satan’s Pit, n.d.) Of course, the Beast looks like the typical depiction of Satan that you would expect to see on popular television (a huge red evil looking figure with horns). Eventually The Doctor and Rose kill the Beast. Of course, this episode was also inspired by Satan to get people to think that he is a joke, just an idea, a tale told to put fear in people, so they think they do not have anything to worry about. Also, to get some 53
people to think that Satan is locked away somewhere in real life in a pit, and not actively involved on earth, in sin, and in people’s lives. However, the Bible tells us two key things I want to mention: “You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.” (Ezekiel 28:13 NKJV) and “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8 NKJV) Nowhere in the Bible does it say that Lucifer lost his beauty when he became Satan, and because he walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour, we must know that he will use tactics like this to try to portray himself as something that he’s not, even in a very negative light to get as many people lost as possible.
The Counterfeit of the Multiple Fallen Worlds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJP9o4BEziI
In the episode ‘The Zygon Invasion’, much buzz was spread over the speech that The Doctor gave towards the end of the episode. In Doctor Who, Zygon’s are aliens that can take on the form of other aliens or humans, and they have deep disdain for humans and earth. The Zygon’s goal was to destroy humans and take over. At the end of ‘The Zygon Invasion’, the viewers see a scene of a human and a zygon disguised as The Doctors companion Clara Oswin Oswald with their hands close to buttons on two boxes – both prepared to press it to harm/destroy the individuals of either London, or the Zygon race. The Zygon’s are just one example, but the whole show of Doctor Who is truly an example of counterfeit fallen worlds, as most of the aliens from other planets and galaxies are ‘the bad guys’ that come to invade earth, take over, and kill human beings. Another example would be a species of aliens called the Daleks who are constantly invading earth to try to wipe out humans and take over the universe. In the parable of the lost sheep, Jesus gives a beautiful example of how He left the Shephard-ship 54
of His other created beings and unfallen worlds and came down to earth Himself to save His lost sheep that had gone astray (Matthew 18:12-14). The Bible also says that we are a spectacle to the worlds stage and to the angels (1 Corinthians 4:9). In the book of Job we learn of a special meeting that God has with the Sons of God somewhere in space that happens every so often. At this meeting, the only individual who is not a Son of God that comes from earth is Satan. Satan and his angels were cast out of Heaven, and down to the earth when they rebelled against God, and when Adam and Eve sinned – it was clear that earth is the only place that there is sin. Earth is the only place that Jesus came to, to redeem. Also, there is nowhere in the Bible that says God’s other created beings are fallen in anyway – in fact, It says the opposite since we are the only spectacle. For Doctor Who to attempt to portray other worlds in the universe as fallen, is a direct counterfeit of Scripture.
Cracks in the Universe: Attempt to Tarnish Creation
In Genesis 1:1 we learn that God created the heavens and the earth. At the end of all of God’s creation, He saw that it was good – especially after creating man, He saw that everything very good (Genesis 1:31). Nothing was erroneous, and everything was perfect. However, there is a counterfeit of this in Doctor Who, that attempts to shed a negative light on creation. In Doctor Who, The Doctor faces his worst fear, which is the time field. The time field was said to be a body of energy that spills out from cracks in the fabric of time and space (Time Field, Wikia, n.d). The cracks are two parts of space that should never have touched pressed together. The cracks came into being when the Silence destroyed The Doctor’s TARDIS, which resulted in the majority of the universe never existing. However, the TARDIS was able to preserve earth, by putting itself in a time loop when it died (Time Field, Wikia, n.d). For Doctor Who to say that the cracks in time and space resulted in the majority of the universe never existing, says that 55
something went wrong in the universe. This made for an interesting storyline that had many viewers on the edge of their seats, however it is not true. Everything God made was perfect, and there were no cracks that would cause tumult in the universe.
NASA found a cloud in the constellation Sagittarius in which the crack in time resembled. Doctor Who fans went crazy, thinking this is proof that the show is real or that themes in the show are real. The cloud was found 2 months after the first episode of the crack in the universe was shown, in 2010. Nevertheless, the crack NASA found doesn’t prove anything about Doctor Who, other than Satan’s influence over it, trying to get people to believe in the false teachings and doctrines that the viewers are being bombarded with.
Final Thoughts
Doctor Who… In Real Life? The Sad Reality of Distortion
What we find in Doctor Who, is that it is has many of the elements of the great controversy between good and evil, God and Satan, that we find in Revelation when referring to the last moments of earth’s history. We see this in an amplified way because whereas all of Doctor Who is fiction, it blends real historical events in with absolute fictional storylines in episodes that are about the past. Because of this, when it comes to episodes about the future it gives the viewers a sense of “Hm, could this really happen someday?” As a result, Doctor Who 56
and its themes have spilled over into the real world. One-way Doctor Who’s themes spill over into the real world is by the viewers and fans of the show getting so emotionally wrapped up in it as mentioned previously. Another way is by Doctor Who’s constant mingling of real world events, both past and present with completely fictionalized storylines. What was once totally real because a blur in the minds of the viewers, typically without them fully realizing it. Or, on the flip side, what was once completely rubbish, becomes a possibility of happing in the future, or becomes incorporated into their daily speech, lifestyle, thought process, or simply just something cool and fun. Another issue is that Doctor Who sometimes takes a real theme or thing that is good, and totally flips it upside down, making it associated with something bad or evil in the viewers mind. For example, in the original series, The Doctor had a foe named Sabbath Dei who was a part of the Masonic movements, called The Service. Sabbath Dei eventually began to try to be like The Doctor and dress like him as well. How sad is it that Doctor Who would stoop this low to create an enemy out of the Sabbath? However, we know who the real author and inspirer is behind this character.
Personal Testimony
Personally, I was never a person that was into aliens or anything that had anything to do with them. In fact, when I used to be an avid video game player, I detested all games that had to do with aliens (which I thought was weird because I loved watching Invader Zim as a kid). I remember when I got my first Xbox and it came with two or three games, one of them being Halo. I refused to play the game for several months to over a year because I did not see the point of playing video games that had anything to do with something so blatantly fictionalized. Even though I wasn’t playing the best of video games, I knew that God did not create evil aliens (or good ones for that matter), or any aliens at all, so I couldn’t fathom playing games like that. 57
However, I could fathom playing all the Call of Duty games, and other popular violent shooting games. It is strange how sin works. Anyway, once I started watching Doctor Who (and re-watching, and binge-watching seasons back to back within weeks), I developed a liking for aliens and I found myself using alien memes and quoting things some of the alien species would say from Doctor Who. One of my friends even told me constantly, “You’re really obsessed with aliens!” I started watching the X-Files, Ancient Aliens and reruns of Invader Zim, all the while telling myself that I didn’t believe any of those things, but I found it fun to watch them for entertainment.
When I was in high school, I heard the Holy Spirit speaking to me in my heart and He told me to throw away of all my video games. Prior to this, I had been feeling Him move upon my heart, and I was beginning to lose my interest in them as I was wanting to listen to God’s voice more and have a relationship with Him. The video games were changing my personality, and I felt myself slipping to a point of no return. When the Holy Spirt told me to throw them away, I got several bags, stuffed the games in and threw them in the incinerator, after praying and telling the Lord I was surrendering to Him. I had enough video games that I could have easily sold them and made about one thousand dollars, but I knew that was not what God said to do. He completely set me free, and I have been set free for years. However, one day I did something that I thought I would never do. I had a thought of missing playing puzzle and strategy games. A thought I now know came from Satan. I decided to buy an Xbox One and just play simple puzzle and strategy games – nothing else. However, it wasn’t long before that spiraled into mystery games, and having poor choices of friends, I let one of them influence me into playing a game that is a cross between soccer and racing – having known that I enjoy soccer. Eventually that same friend suggested that I play Destiny – a violent shooting game that involves 58
none other than aliens. Satan placed a thought in my mind that I took, analyzed and thought wasn’t so bad “Well, at least I’m not shooting real people.” I thought. How awful! The very thing I detested, Satan got me involved in. It didn’t take long for me to come to my senses thank God, and I threw that game away, and all the games I downloaded; even the innocent ones. I learned that there is no video game that is truly innocent. They are all gateways used by Satan to get you to move on to the depth of his deceitfulness in the trap of his digital death maze. It all started with one choice to watch a show people in my family used to watch when they were young.
I add a part of my testimony on God saving me from Satan’s trap of video games here because Satan will use anything he can that you give him license to. When I think back, I remember when I was young I used to love watching Invader Zim which was an alien cartoon show about an alien boy who comes to earth, pretends to be a normal human boy, but is secretly planning to take over the world. Eventually, I stopped watching that show, and Satan realized he didn’t have a grip on me anymore in that way. He tried through video games, but I wouldn’t budge, so he tried through Doctor Who, and eventually re-routed me back to the very things I said I wouldn’t engage in. However, praise be to God because He reached down, and pulled me right out of Satan’s grip, and I have not and will not ever look back by the grace of God!
Sometimes, when people think of aliens, they think it’s a joke or no big deal, and it may seem strange that I’ve spent so much time on the theme of aliens here. However, the government doesn’t find alien activity strange as there have been countless coverups into their probing and studies to know if there is life on other planets. People who believe they have seen UFO’s don’t find it strange either, as they sadly believe they are truly seeing beings or crafts from another planet. Modern science doesn’t find talking about extraterrestrials strange either as the LBT 59
telescope or sometimes called the Lucifer telescope; interestingly enough, searches space for extraterrestrial life. Clearly, they are all searching in vain, but this is all inspired by Satan. In many of the popular movies, TV shows, and video games, it is sometimes shown as some form of alien life or being not from earth, coming to earth to either start a war, or in some cases create peace. We know that when Satan comes to impersonate Christ, he will come appearing as if he has come from somewhere else, and is now coming back to earth, counterfeiting Christ’s second coming. So, we have a being not originally from earth, coming to earth. The basic groundwork for most alien style entertainment and assumed sights of UFO’s and aliens by people. Satan is and has been for years; prepping the minds of people for his false coming, and possibly for sightings of many false christs that will appear in diverse places, and for the counterfeit of many signs and wonders. And just in case one of those wonders are sending or bringing a fleet of ‘extraterrestrial’ beings to earth claiming them to be Son’s of God or angels: “For they are spirits of demons, performing signs,” (Revelation 16:14a NKJV). “And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you.” (Matthew 24:4a NKJV)
By Beholding We Become Changed
We are all naturally born with a sin nature. However, when Jesus came and paid the price of death for us that we deserved, He provided a way out for us from that sin nature and into His character. He began re-writing the essence of who we are in our DNA as He entered our time stream, and when we accept Him, we forsake ourselves and our sin nature and accept to take on His identity – which He creates in us, not ourselves. However, when we engage in Satan’s media, we revert to our sin nature and we reject and erase what Christ has done in our lives and hearts little by little or keep Christ at bay altogether. Even without knowing Christ, God has written His law on our hearts. A typical individual would call this: having morals. We would not know what 60
morals are if it weren’t for God’s law as they come from Him. However, the more a person engages in content inspired by Satan and demonic forces, the more a stripping away and decaying of morals is seen in the individual and in society. Ellen White once said that “By beholding we become changed.” (White, 1892) We can either behold Christ and be changed into His image or behold the enemy and be changed into his. When we behold the enemy and what he has to offer, we inevitably revert back to the first Adam, Adam’s nature or our sin nature – easily swayed to be deceived and taken by temptation. However, the Second Adam, Jesus was not deceived or taken in temptation by Satan. He was tempted by the devil, but notice how Jesus always overcame Satan’s temptations with the true Word of God. Satan used God’s Word too, but he misused it, trying to trick Jesus. Satan is still misusing and misquoting the Bible today to deceive and trick the masses through various channels – one of them being the entertainment industry. We must refuse to be beguiled by the devil’s trickery, by refusing to engage in watching this kind of media and entertainment – Just as Jesus did with the true Word of God, but it can only be done by shedding light on the darkness, allowing Christ into our hearts, and letting Him take full control. 61
